RAC SW Chinese New Year Celebration

This year's CNY Celebration is held at my house. This time round, everyone brought a food item along. As always, the food was in abundance. It was certainly a day of enjoying one's company.

Had fun cutting the chicken?

Lo Hei! Singapore West, Huat AH~!

After feasting on the food, Rotarian Tay gave a presentation on his recent Polio Walk Hike. It was certainly interesting to hear about his adventures and learn some safety tips on how to protect your feet if you want to climb a mountain or walk long distances.

Then, we had our club meeting as usual. We ended off the session by celebrating the Jan. & Feb. babies' birthday:)

SAVH CNY Bazaar

On a beautiful Saturday morning, RAC Singapore West decided to help the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped (SAVH) with their Chinese New Year Bazaar to raise funds for the association. Each of us was assigned a stall to man together with a SAVH staff. Some of the SAVH staff is visually handicapped and it was a good opportunity for us to get to know more about how the visually handicapped people manage their everyday lifes.

The SAVH staff that I was assigned with was visually handicapped (able to see partially) and he taught me how to use the iPhone screen reader function. I didn't know that the iPhone has such a function! The screen reader function will read whatever that was tapped on and if you want to select the button, you have to double-tap the icon. Moreover, instead of using a finger to swipe through the pages, they use 4 fingers to swipe through the pages. I guess this is to prevent them from accidentally swiping through the pages. Apple products are really helpful, don't you think? :D

In general, the SAVH people are extremely friendly and easy to mingle with. Even though the crowd is not so ideal, my Bak Kwa booth still managed to sell 37 boxes of Bak Kwa and 4 packets of pork floss (Sales: $1000+). I guess with better advertisement, they might be able to draw in a larger crowd and achieve better sales.

Dialogue in the Dark: Journey through the Darkness

Finally a Professional Development session AT.... DIALOGUE IN THE DARK @ Ngee Ann Polytechnic!!! Woohoo!!!

On 17th December 2011, a group of us spent an amazing morning feeling our way through the darkness with the help of Kelvin Tan!

Before starting our darkness journey

Since it's near Christmas, the DiD peeps had some Christmas elements during the journey which made it even more fun and interesting. I didn't know that this is how it feels like to be a visually impaired person. Just basing on the other senses to help me along the way. Luckily, with friends beside me, I guess the journey wasn't scary but extremely fun:)

Along the way, we had to feel the words on the statue, sit on a boat along the Singapore River, hang Christmas decorations on the "invisible" Christmas tree, feel for items in the room, ordering drinks at the cafe and writing Christmas wishes on the card. Time really flies and the whole journey didn't seem like 1 hour!

If you haven't been to Dialogue in the Dark, better book an appointment NOW!!! It's definitely a worth-while one hour journey through the darkness. :)

"East" and West Christmas BBQ Session

On 16th December 2011, we had a Christmas BBQ Session with Rotaract Club of Singapore East at CK's house. Even though it was raining throughout the day, Heaven still pity us and stopped raining in the evening. Thank God!

Although the place was wet, it still did not damper our feelings for the festive Christmas. In fact, doesn't it seem to be like Christmas with the cool weather and gloomy sky?

Isn't it supposed to be LOG cake? Why did it become a BLOCK cake?

Birthday Surprise at Vivo City

On 14 November, we had a birthday surpise for Hooi Ying at Vivo City. We bought the cake from Awfully Chocolate and had them to do the wordings on the cake.

After which, we met up at Golden Village to watch "You are the apple of my eye" and finally setting down at Long John Silvers to celebrate her birthday.

It was so nice of the fast food restaurant to give us free ice-cream as well upon knowing that we are celebrating someone's birthday.

Hope that Hooi Ying liked the surprise and stay cheerful and pretty;)
