Rotaract Leadership Camp

Ben, Wahid and me attended the Rotaract Leadership Camp held at Nacli from 20th to 22nd December. It was really an enjoyable experience, meeting with leaders from different rotaract clubs and listening to their views about rotaract. Through various team building games, we managed to forge a closer friendship and I hope we'll keep in touch^^

Team Catapult! Our team managed to emerge as the first^^

Rotary Flag Day

Similar to last year, RAC Singapore West helped out in the Rotary Foundation Flag Day on 19th October 2013. We were also assigned to the Bugis area together with our sister club, RAC NUS. Each of us were given a yellow cap, collection bag, "flags" and a brochure which contain information regarding the Rotary Foundation. Did any of you supported us while you were in town?

Taking a picture together before we head out to our collection point (Guan Yin Temple).

What we received at the assembly point. Phew, can we sell so many "flags"?

Mr President asking for donation.

Our soon-to-be member managed to get a lot of donations! His charm?

Taking a picture of the day with our Rotarian Chew:)

Did you spot this in Bugis Village?

At the collection point. We volunteered to carry the donation bags back to the headquarters at Chinatown and helped to account for the bags. Nearly had a heart attack when they said that there were missing bags. Thankfully, it was a mistake;)

It's been over a decade since I sell "flags". It is heart-warming to know that people are more giving nowadays. Hope to see more of such people in the future! Let's do what we can^^

Kayaking Orientation Programme

Today, our club went to Kallang River to experience kayaking~! Many of us might be confused between kayaking and canoeing. The difference will be that kayaking uses a double-bladed paddle instead of a single-bladed one and thus more effort is required.

Before we started kayaking, our coach taught us some basic skills such as the way to handle the paddle, how to carry the kayak, how to board the kayak, etc. It seemed quite simple while we were doing on the land but once we board the kayak and started paddling, it was a different thing altogether! We need to coordinate with our partner and at times use our instincts to paddle the correct way.

We covered approximately 7km from Nicholl Highway to (Merdeka Bridge) to some bridge along Geylang River (behind Tanjong Rhu Bridge) to Singapore Flyer and back:) Think it was a great choice in choosing Water Venture (Kallang) as we are able to kayak and enjoy the beautiful landscape of Singapore at the same time! We actually managed to complete the whole distance within 3 hours!

Water Venture actually loan one of the big cupboards for us to store our stuff and there was a huge seating area where we can rest and relax after the event. The toilets were also big and clean and we could actually freshen up after the kayaking expedition!

I had a great time kayaking today and my friends did too! We are considering to organize the 1 Star Programme next year. If you are interested to join us, do contact me via my email^^

DG Visit cum Rotary Club of Singapore West Oktoberfest 2013

Similar to the previous year, the District Governor (DG) visited Rotary Club of Singapore West and we (Rotaract Club of Singapore West) and our sister club (Rotaract Club of NUS) had to give a presentation to DG. During the presentation, we gave DG our club's overview statistics and our club's future plan. This year's DG is PP Chew Ghim Bok from Rotary Club of Bugis Junction.

After the presentation, the annual Oktoberfest event began. Unlike last year where we get to try the diferrent types of sausages, this year we had different types of meat ranging from the normal rosemary chicken to lamb meat. On top of the sinful eating, we get to enjoy Swedish beer and red wine which were sponsored by our Rotarians.

Although this year we had lesser games as compared to the previous year, our team (consisting of Harry, Seng Yang, Alex and me) managed to clinch the first prize for the Beer Drinking competition!!! I certainly had a fun time tonight together with my Rotarians and sister club.

Hari Raya cum Mid Autumn Festival Celebration

It has come to the time when we begin to snack on festive snacks and traditional Muslim food again. This time round, we combined the two festive seasons - Hari Raya and Mid Autumn Festival together and held it at Wahid's house.

Look at the sumptuous spread that Wahid's mother has prepared!!! Besides, she used the Air Fryer to cook the chicken drumlets and nuggets and they were so delicious that everyone simply couldn't stop eating them.

The delicious pastries that Rtn Chew bought for us:

Mid Autumn Festival @ IMH

Yesterday, RAC Singapore West celebrated Mid-Autumn Festival with the IMH residents. This event was organized by Firefly Mission and WAY. The event started at 1.15pm and ended around 7.30pm.

The event started off with each resident getting a balloon which was made by the Firefly Mission and WAY volunteers. Look at how bright and colourful the balloons are!

After a series of performances, the residents enjoyed a delicious tea party with ice-cream, green bean soup, swiss roll and soft drinks.

In order to create a "high" atmosphere, there was a karaoke session and the residents can sing one of their favourite songs on stage. There was also dance sessions where the residents work out their energy after having a wonderful tea:) Next up was the dinner session where the volunteers queued up to distribute the food to the residents.

After dinner, the residents had to put on their creativity caps and designed their own lanterns. Look at how beautiful the end products are!

On behalf of RAC Singapore West, we would like to thank our guests for helping out at the event. Hope to see you guys and even more volunteers in the next event^^

Stay tune for our upcoming event - Hari Ray Celebration this coming Saturday @ Wahid's house!!!
