IMH Bi-monthly Visit

We resumed our bi-monthly IMH Visit and had a good interaction time with the residents by playing some games and having snacks together. Ended off the session by having a karaoke session which the residents really enjoy. Can't wait for our next visit which is before CNY and we'll be making some handicraft!!!

Rotary Flag Day

Similar to last year, RAC Singapore West helped out in the Rotary Foundation Flag Day on 19th October 2013. We were also assigned to the Bugis area together with our sister club, RAC NUS. Each of us were given a yellow cap, collection bag, "flags" and a brochure which contain information regarding the Rotary Foundation. Did any of you supported us while you were in town?

Taking a picture together before we head out to our collection point (Guan Yin Temple).

What we received at the assembly point. Phew, can we sell so many "flags"?

Mr President asking for donation.

Our soon-to-be member managed to get a lot of donations! His charm?

Taking a picture of the day with our Rotarian Chew:)

Did you spot this in Bugis Village?

At the collection point. We volunteered to carry the donation bags back to the headquarters at Chinatown and helped to account for the bags. Nearly had a heart attack when they said that there were missing bags. Thankfully, it was a mistake;)

It's been over a decade since I sell "flags". It is heart-warming to know that people are more giving nowadays. Hope to see more of such people in the future! Let's do what we can^^

Kayaking Orientation Programme

Today, our club went to Kallang River to experience kayaking~! Many of us might be confused between kayaking and canoeing. The difference will be that kayaking uses a double-bladed paddle instead of a single-bladed one and thus more effort is required.

Before we started kayaking, our coach taught us some basic skills such as the way to handle the paddle, how to carry the kayak, how to board the kayak, etc. It seemed quite simple while we were doing on the land but once we board the kayak and started paddling, it was a different thing altogether! We need to coordinate with our partner and at times use our instincts to paddle the correct way.

We covered approximately 7km from Nicholl Highway to (Merdeka Bridge) to some bridge along Geylang River (behind Tanjong Rhu Bridge) to Singapore Flyer and back:) Think it was a great choice in choosing Water Venture (Kallang) as we are able to kayak and enjoy the beautiful landscape of Singapore at the same time! We actually managed to complete the whole distance within 3 hours!

Water Venture actually loan one of the big cupboards for us to store our stuff and there was a huge seating area where we can rest and relax after the event. The toilets were also big and clean and we could actually freshen up after the kayaking expedition!

I had a great time kayaking today and my friends did too! We are considering to organize the 1 Star Programme next year. If you are interested to join us, do contact me via my email^^
