Honoured

By Mun Wai, President of RAC Ampang

One word to describe my short stay with RAC Singapore West to attend its Silver Jubilee Installation. Fantastic! Marvelous ! Cool ! (opps… more than one word).

From the moment I arrived at Singapore, in fact even before I reached anywhere near to Singapore, Outgoing President Simon, Incoming President Jun Jie & his girlfriend had been waiting for me as early as 3 pm. Their patience was really remarkable as I only arrived to my destination at about 6 pm. I had some problems with my transportation.

Then, I had home cooked meal at Dawn’s place where I met PP Zack, Aiwen and Gregory. It was a very yummy dinner. I tasted the authentic Singaporean Bak Kut Teh. It was different from what I usually had in KL. The Chile Crab was another mouth watering dish. It is fresh, not too spicy and lots of gravy.

After all the long day, I needed much rest. I pity the two Incoming and Outgoing RAC Singapore West Presidents, Jun Jie and Simon. They sacrificed their comfort for me so that I can have a single bed while they both shared the other single bed.

The moment has arrived. It was the RAC Singapore West Silver Jubilee Installation. All the hard work and planning was for this moment and it was another well planned event. The weather was perfect for the installation. It was cooling and no haze. The venue was well selected and decorated. The lightings were precisely coordinated with the day’s programme. The sound system was crystal clear. No frequency interference. The games and entertainment were great. People mingled around and laughed out loud.

Speaking of the entertainment, WOW! I have never witnessed any sexier pole dancing than I have witnessed during the installation. PP Zack, as the more “experienced”, guided his protégé, Dawn, to perform a live and seductive pole dance with another non-Singaporean man. It was, emmm…, let me put it as “interesting”. I believe that will be my one and only time seeing Dawn to dance so “elegant” and “professionally done”.

The speeches were touching and meaningful. Outgoing President Simon had watery eyes while giving his speech. Indeed, after leading a group of young and motivated members for a year means a lot to Simon. They had many moments bond them together.

On the other hand, Incoming President Jun Jie’s speech was at a lighter note. He is excited to continue the 25 years of strong legacy of RAC Singapore West. Though he is relatively new to RAC Singapore West, his vast experience with Rotary family made him as the ideal person to be the Incoming President.

The President of Rotary Club of Singapore West, President Pieter van Putten made one good point. On top of District 3310 DRR 5’Rs, President Pieter added the sixth “R” : Relax. Like the old saying, “All work no play makes Jack a dull boy”. There is time we need to rejuvenate our mind and body to get ready for the next challenge.

After the installation, I was given the privileged to visit a place in Singapore where hardly, I guess none, non-Singaporean Rotaractors have ever visited. That place is so unique that it gives special attention to some people. Some will be definitely receive more than the others. At certain point of our life, we will need these attention. The more the better. Can you guess the place?

It was a tiring but fun and memorable trip. I had delicious and authentic Singaporean home cooked meal, honoured to have Incoming and Outgoing Presidents to sacrifice for my comfort, attended a well planned installation, witnessed RAC Singapore West version of pole dancing and privileged to visit the unique place. All these thanks to RAC Singapore West : Incoming President Jun Jie, Outgoing President Simon, PP Zack, Dawn, Aiwen, Jasmin, Tse Siang, Yi Ling, Haizah, Kasturi, Wahid and Eileen. As a team, you did not just made things happened. You made things happened in a more enjoyable and memorable event. Keep it up! Once again, THANKS.
