Dialogue in the Dark: Journey through the Darkness

Finally a Professional Development session AT.... DIALOGUE IN THE DARK @ Ngee Ann Polytechnic!!! Woohoo!!!

On 17th December 2011, a group of us spent an amazing morning feeling our way through the darkness with the help of Kelvin Tan!

Before starting our darkness journey

Since it's near Christmas, the DiD peeps had some Christmas elements during the journey which made it even more fun and interesting. I didn't know that this is how it feels like to be a visually impaired person. Just basing on the other senses to help me along the way. Luckily, with friends beside me, I guess the journey wasn't scary but extremely fun:)

Along the way, we had to feel the words on the statue, sit on a boat along the Singapore River, hang Christmas decorations on the "invisible" Christmas tree, feel for items in the room, ordering drinks at the cafe and writing Christmas wishes on the card. Time really flies and the whole journey didn't seem like 1 hour!

If you haven't been to Dialogue in the Dark, better book an appointment NOW!!! It's definitely a worth-while one hour journey through the darkness. :)

"East" and West Christmas BBQ Session

On 16th December 2011, we had a Christmas BBQ Session with Rotaract Club of Singapore East at CK's house. Even though it was raining throughout the day, Heaven still pity us and stopped raining in the evening. Thank God!

Although the place was wet, it still did not damper our feelings for the festive Christmas. In fact, doesn't it seem to be like Christmas with the cool weather and gloomy sky?

Isn't it supposed to be LOG cake? Why did it become a BLOCK cake?

Birthday Surprise at Vivo City

On 14 November, we had a birthday surpise for Hooi Ying at Vivo City. We bought the cake from Awfully Chocolate and had them to do the wordings on the cake.

After which, we met up at Golden Village to watch "You are the apple of my eye" and finally setting down at Long John Silvers to celebrate her birthday.

It was so nice of the fast food restaurant to give us free ice-cream as well upon knowing that we are celebrating someone's birthday.

Hope that Hooi Ying liked the surprise and stay cheerful and pretty;)

RAC Singapore West - Outing with IMH

In its fourth year running, RAC Singapore West together with RAC NUS jointly organised an outing for the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) patients at Marina Barrage on 26 March 2011.

This year, we had 19 VIPs - Very Important Patients - which we used among ourselves (volunteers) to communicate in bring out our special VIPs. This was a record high numbers of VIPs entrusted upon ourselves unlike previous years where it would be around 12 VIPs. This could be the strong rapport that we have built among the years with the ward. Kudos to RAC NUS too for supporting us in this project.

We played some ice-breaker games like "Simon says..." and had a kite-flying session for the VIPs to enjoy themselves. It was really nice to see the kites being assembled by the VIPs and up in the air. A sense of acheivement for all as most of the kites were up in the air, flying and soaring in the air.

Indeed, we at RAC Singapore West, hope that one day, they would also soar and fly high on their own accounts.

Some of the snapshots taken:

Look at all the kites!!!!

I hope that all the volunteers had fun flying the kites as well.
After the kite-flying session, we brought our VIPs a tour around the Marina Barrage.
Many thanks to Yan Xing for organising this outing as well as to RAC NUS for supporting us.

Zonal Bowling

This year's Zonal Bowling was on 13 March 2011 in conjuction with World Rotaract Week. RAC Singapore West sent in 1 team this year consisting of Zack, Dawn, Yancy and Rtn Tay. Graduated member, Andrew along with Hooi Ying also lent in their support!

After a hiatus of trophies of two years, RAC Singapore came short again, missing 3rd place by a mere 11 pins. Despite getting fourth, all of them enjoyed the most important element of the bowling - which was to have FUN. This, I was sure of due to the feedback that I received that RAC Singapore West was the active one or should I say nosiest team! :)

To Team RAC Singapore West, good effort and let's build on it for next year's Zonal Bowling!!!

Nonetheless, Rotaract has many to offer to all of us but it can only begins with you and how much you want to contribute to help the society.

End Polio Walk

On 31st December, together with Rotary Club of Singapore West, RAC Singapore West supported our sponsoring Rotary Club with its final walk leg - Singapore (From Causeway to Singapore Island Country Club). Dawn, Keyuan, Zack and Wahid all chipped in to do their part in supporting this meaning project. Our sister club, RAC NUS also took part in this meaningful project.

As the safety road marshals, we had to be at all of the traffic junctions which proved to be a tough challenge with a small group of us. But at the end, we managed to help in whatever we can. Keyuan and Dawn went to buy some fruits and drinks to encourage the participants.

It was really a humbling experience to be part of this team.

Water anyone? :)
